Our Community Garden Project so far..

Our aim is to increase biodiversity in Mount Vernon Park by planting wild flower beds, and making bird boxes and bee hotels, we hope to encourage local wildlife to thrive and grow, as well as creating an inviting area for park users to sit and relax.

We have gathered ideas and suggestions from the community during our Community engagement days, social media and survey. We followed this up with consultation and have took on advice from technical advisers on how best to achieve our outcome. Local volunteer Lauren Izzett has also produced design drawings to help us visualise our potential plans.

We received £1,000.00 grant funding from CSGN and some additional funding from MVCH this has allowed us to purchase wood and tools. Ian Ferns a local carpenter volunteer has helped the other volunteers and members of the local community create both large and small planters with living wall and bench attached so you can sit and relax comfortably in our garden area.

Asda funding of £1.500 and Action Earth funding of £250 has also helped us purchase picnic benches that will be assembled shortly and installed in the community garden area beside the hall. We have purchased some smaller planters and also purchased paint, so that we could bring more colour to our garden.

Woodland Trust have just confirmed that they will deliver over 300 free hedging trees to our community garden in March this year. We will ask the community to come along and get involved in the planting of these trees. Our plan is to create a natural boundary around the triangular area of our community garden.

Our volunteers within the local community have been fantastic and we appreciate their time. Special thanks to Lori Lynch and her boys for all your hard work.

Thank you for all of our plant dontaions so far. Special thanks to Susan Wilson in particular for her very generous donation.
